ASV Gherdëina Runners hard at work: special prize for a new course record
With an increasingly international appeal, the Dolomites Saslong Half Marathon is ready for a spectacular 8th edition on Saturday, June 6, in the unmistakable Dolomite scenery between Val di Fassa and Val Gardena. After reaching sold-out status, the iconic trail-running race will welcome athletes and running enthusiasts from no fewer than 32 countries on the first Saturday of June – determined to challenge themselves and, above all, enjoy the experience surrounded by the dreamlike landscapes that characterize the entire “Saslong” route.
From London to Auckland, from Seoul to São Paulo, via Glasgow all the way to Lima, Peru: the race around the Sassolungo will embrace the world. Runners representing Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Spain, France, Germany, South Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, the USA and Venezuela – just to name a few – will line up at the start. This strong international participation once again confirms the appeal of both the ASV Gherdëina Runners event and the spectacular territory through which the course unfolds.
Among the women, Martina Cumerlato is considered one of the main contenders for victory. The athlete from Vicenza, born in 1998, has already achieved important results in mountain running and ski mountaineering. At the Dolomites Saslong Half Marathon she claimed 2nd place in 2024 and victory in 2022, when she stood on the top step of the podium alongside her partner Alex Oberbacher, who is also confirmed for this 8th edition together with top names such as Andreas Reiterer, Andrea Prandi, Mauro Rasom, Luca Clara, Mattia Novaro, Gianluca Scardovi, Hannes Steidl, Péter Málits (HUN) Germany’s Björn Wolf, and many others.
South Tyrolean runner Katia Engl will also return to the start line this year. After finishing 4th last season, she comes back aiming for a podium finish. The same ambition will be shared by Anna Santini from Trentino, who secured 3rd place in 2024. Also Annika Seefeld (AUT) will be at the start.
Special attention will also be on the legendary Edeltraud Thaler. The South Tyrolean athlete has achieved major successes throughout her mountain-running career and also reached the podium at the very first edition of the Dolomites Saslong Half Marathon in 2018.
For this edition, the organizing committee has introduced a special € 300 prize for the male or female athlete who sets a new course record.
The trail-running event promises great excitement, and for those wishing to relive the emotions – or unable to attend live – an extensive race highlight program will be broadcast on Rai Sport in the days following the race.
